Canine training requires generous rewards that are given correctly. It is essential that your dog get treats at the proper times and in the correct amounts. Your dog does not know why they are getting the reward unless you do it right after the positive behavior.

Establish feeding habits for your dog. If your dog has a schedule for his feeding, he will learn when to expect his meals. Your dog will soon become accustomed to his feeding schedule and eat quickly.

Keep your dog calm when you enter the room. It is great to have playtime with your pet, but your dog should stay calm when you come into the room. Don’t acknowledge dogs the moment that you set foot in the house.

Firm, direct commands are the best approach to take when training your dog. However, this doesn’t mean you should always yell at your dog, rather try and find a middle-ground that you can work with. This develops a strong relationship with your dog.

You should do some research on the grooming of the dog breed you chose. While some dogs just need a few baths a year, other breeds have to be clipped and cleaned more frequently. This will keep your dog fresh and reduce the chance of illness.

You should never spend more than a few minutes training your dog. Any longer than fifteen minutes spent training your dog will exhaust his ability to concentrate and lead to frustration. Once your session is completed, give your dog some time to play and praise him for the session he completed.

If you say your dog’s name in reprimand, remember to also say it several times in praise to counteract the negative effect. Your pet needs to understand that his name can represent something good. He should not be afraid to come to you when he is called.

Do not punish your dog when you are training him. If he misbehaves, correct him, but most importantly, you should try to prevent that behavior from happening to begin with. Training should be a positive experience that helps to build trust, and a closer relationship between you and your dog.

Give your dog a treat to get him to respond as you desire. Slowly reduce the number of treats as time progresses and watch as they continue to follow instructions.

Learn what your dog’s signals are in order to prevent future accidents indoors. Many dogs have certain behavior patterns that express a need to go the bathroom. If you know what they do before hand you will see that they need to go outside. If you learn your dog’s natural signs, you will have an easier time house training your dog.

Use all the resources out there, like magazines books and television when you are training your dog. Learn from others who have trained the same breed. Create custom training for your dog’s special needs.

Make sure to get your dog neutered or spayed at six months old. This should happen at the same time as your first obedience classes. The dog will preform better in obedience training after they have been neutered or spayed. By spaying or neutering a dog he will have a longer happier life.

Because you now have some excellent tips on training your puppy, utilize them. Keep your patience high and your love flowing to a well-behaved dog. You may not see overnight changes, but with time and patience, your dog will be better behaved.
